What Is RCS? Is it supported on Brax Mobile?

RCS is currently supported on Brax Mobile in the following manner:
  1. Android to and from Android using Google Messages as the primary and recommended messaging application.
  2. Android to and from iPhone devices that are utilizing another carrier (an iPhone not on Brax Mobile)
As we're finalizing the implementation of RCS across device vendors we do not currently support RCS in the following manner:
  1. Android to iPhone or iPhone to Android.
    1. An iPhone on Brax Mobile would not be able to take advantage of an existing or newly established RCS group chat with Android devices on RCS regardless of other devices carrier.
Unfortunately, our RCS messaging service partner only guarantees implementation on iPhone in March 2026. iMessaging, SMS and WhatsApp is not affected. If you depend on RCS messaging, we recommend you wait to subscribe when RCS is fully implemented or use the alternative methods below.

What can I do in the meantime between my messaging contacts to have an RCS like experience?

Many mobile applications used for IM (instant messaging) such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal and Messenger (Meta) are great alternatives for a rich communication method across devices and carriers.
What is RCS? and what makes it different over SMS and MMS?
  • Rich Media Support: RCS allows high-resolution photos, videos, and files (up to 100MB, depending on carrier) with better quality than MMS, which compresses media heavily and caps file sizes at ~300-600KB.
  • Interactive Features: RCS includes typing indicators, read receipts, group chat enhancements (e.g., adding/removing participants), and rich cards/carousels for business messaging, none of which MMS supports.
  • Data-Driven Delivery: RCS uses Wi-Fi or mobile data for faster, more reliable delivery, while MMS relies on slower cellular networks and often fails with poor signal.
  • Business Capabilities: RCS supports verified sender profiles, branded messages, and interactive elements like buttons or QR codes for customer engagement, unlike MMS’s plain text/image limits.
  • Encryption and Security: RCS offers end-to-end encryption (with Universal Profile 3.0 rolling out in 2025) for secure chats, while MMS has no encryption.
  • No Character Limits: RCS messages have no practical length limit, unlike MMS, which is capped at ~160 characters for text (or chained messages).
  • Fallback to SMS: RCS seamlessly falls back to SMS if data isn’t available, ensuring delivery, whereas MMS fails without sufficient cellular signal.
